Piano literature is incredibly rich and diverse, containing masterworks by some of the greatest composers in music history. Attaining mastery of the instrument takes incredible patience, perseverance, and work ethic, but is equally rewarding to effort required. The South Texas College Piano Studio provides students with the education, resources, and opportunities to achieve this mastery and stokes the fire of their passion for music.
Members of the piano studio take a one-hour private lesson each week and participate in monthly studio classes on Friday afternoons. Most piano students participate in choir or jazz ensemble, in order to prepare for accompanying or to improve chord and improvisation skills at the piano. Students are encouraged to participate in and attend the wide variety of concerts, recitals, and masterclasses offered at South Texas College. Each semester concludes with a final “jury” performance exam for a panel of music faculty. Students celebrate their achievements with a public recital during the last semester of their degree program.
STC piano students have access to 6 private practice rooms, a new Roland Digital Piano lab, and 2 Yamaha up-right pianos. STC pianists get frequent opportunities to perform on the new Yamaha 9 ft. Concert Grand Piano at the Cooper Center Theater.
