The South Texas College Jazz Ensemble is a rewarding experience that teaches students to read syncopated rhythms, basic chord structures, and improvising on a harmonic framework. Students enjoy collaborating to bring to life tunes ranging from big band arrangements to small combo improvisations.
The Jazz Ensemble meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 – 3:50PM under the direction of Daniel Cather. Students perform an end of semester concert and also in the community. Students benefit from working with and hearing regular guest artists. Recent masterclasses and concerts include the Brooklyn-based jazz group, the Huntertones, and the United States Marine Corps.
